Chris is a material based designer currently residing in Los Angeles and has a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design. He worked as design intern for studios such as Tanya Aguiniga and Brendan Ravenhill where he continued to learn about process based design and material exploration. As a Windgate Fellowship recipient in 2013, Chris was able to study with mischer'traxler (a long time studio idol) and Maria Blaisse at the beautiful Domaine des Boisbuchet in the south of France; where he investigated the properties of cork and how to redefine mass production. He previously worked as a bag designer for The Outdoor Recreation Group and Agron Inc. where he designed a wide range of backpacks, bags and computer accessories for various brands including Columbia Sportswear and Adidas.
Originally from the tropical island of Oahu, he developed the desire to make arts and film. He initially moved to Los Angeles to study to be a cinematographer/screen writer, yet found true love for design. With his unique, mixed background of fine art, film and graphic design, it enables him to view projects from different perspectives and express ideas by improvising and adapting an assortment of media that can reveal new scenarios of expression.
Chris strives to create new experiences and relationships for people which is why his process is based on thorough research and investigation in order to create something that is meaningful and lasting.
